Sundial Books is pleased to host the CD Release of Twelve Degrees, a new compilation by local musician Bill Troxler on Saturday, December 17 at 1:00pm. Twelve Degrees is a collection of original tunes and old favorites, spanning the range from traditional Irish dance tunes to original ballads to boogie woogie and even a piece composed for symphony orchestra. This is a studio recording, with Troxler performing on a wide range of folk instruments.
Many of Troxler’s original tunes on this CD commemorate Island events, including our personal favorite, Sundial, composed when we opened Sundial Books in its current location. Other tunes reflect the local flavor of the CD, including Accomac Roots, a resource developed by Dr. Richard Smith for researching the genealogy of African Americans in Accomack County, Captain Chandler’s Lament, a tune that memorializes the death of the Captain whose gravesite sits at the end of North Main Street and Sunset on Big Gut, a tune written to celebrate the building of a new house by friends along Fowling Gut.
During the event, Troxler will play a selection of tracks from the new CD, give some brief background information about the tunes and the recording process and chat about music. CD’s will be on sale during the event for $16.99 each.
