Many of you met Shawn Nocher last summer when we hosted a book signing for her first book - A Hand To Hold in Deep Water. Her newest book, The Precious Jules, was just released and Shawn will return to Sundial Books September 3 to sign copies of it (and the new paperback edition of A Hand to Hold In Deep Water).
The Precious Jules examines the thin line between selfishness and what passes for love. This family story asks what is best for one child in light of what is perceived as the greater good, and just what is the collective legacy of buried family secrets, shame, and helplessness. It is set in Baltimore with a family where one child is sent to an asylum for the mentally impaired when the burden of caring for the five other children becomes too great for the mother. When the asylum is scheduled for closure decades later, what happens to the residents? And how does it affect the family? It is a deeply felt family narrative that will make you fall in love with these flawed and imperfect characters standing on the threshold of an awakening they never expected.
