Crossing Madison - An Inspirational Journey
by Beverly Starr Watson
Confronted with the aftermath of an unprecedented Pacific Northwest snowstorm, three educators from Delmarva's Eastern Shore are greeted with the brutality of a Seattle 'Snowmageddon" some 3,000 miles from home. Bracing against razor-sharp winds and stinging pellets of icy rain, the new arrivals set out to tackle winter's ferocious elements on foot. Plodding along the city's slush-covered sidewalk to reach the registration area for the Conference they were attending, the trio navigate zebra-striped pavement marked explicitly for safe pedestrian crossing. Two of the three made it safely across the street. A soft 'thud' was was the only sound that separated Beverly from her companions and changed the trajectory of their trip forever. Crossing Madison chronicles Beverly's personal journey forward from that day and her belief that she was not alone in the struggle.
Beverly and her husband Ken are lifelong residents of Virginia's famed Chincoteague Island.
